A MUSICAL ABOUT GRABBING LIFE BY THE B*LLS
Being a teen sucks— adolescent angst, your first crush, school shenanigans, peer pressure, and the usual parental pandemonium. For Kimberly it also means being the weird new kid in school, dealing with her alcoholic man-child of a dad, taking care of her hormonally-hysterical pregnant mum, her family being on the run from something, and her crazy aunt trying to recruit her as an accomplice in some kind of hair-brained heist.
And, oh yes, Kimberly also has an extremely rare genetic disorder that accelerates her aging process. Which means she is 15 going on 16, but living in the body of a person four and a half times her age.
Which also means that her next birthday could well be her last.
With her unique biological clock ticking away exponentially, friends and family pulling her in different directions, and a secret bucket list, Kimberly must make some tough decisions about how she wants to live (what’s left of) her life.
Adapted by David Lindsay-Abaire (Pulitzer Prize Winner for Rabbit Hole) from his own acclaimed play of the same name, with gorgeous music by Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home), KIMBERLY AKIMBO is the feelgood – actually, make that feel-everything – musical of the year. Funny, outrageous, and full of heart, it will take you on a great adventure, and make you believe that you have the power to change who you are born as, and make your life better.
Winner of 5 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
